I believe these are two incredible countries. I believe these are two countries with many traditions, with a lot of passion. Because of that I think the connection between Spain and Japan is very good and very important. The relationship that I had with Yuzuru for all these years has taught many people, that even when being rivals, we can still have friendship, we can still have companionship. In many other sports, it’s unattainable, impossible, but we don’t know why. So this relationship between Yuzuru and me can teach a lot and can give a lesson to many people.
I felt very sentimental, I felt very content seeing that he did this video, that this event involving Spain and Japan seems like a great idea to him, too. We have strived many times to maintain these connections with the counties. And it is especially important for be because it’s Japan – a country that I like, that welcomes me always, a country that is so important in the world of skating, for the fans, for the people that follow [skating], for all the functions that it has for skating – competitions, exhibitions, summer camps. So from this end, I would like to say thanks to Yuzuru for supporting this connection, the connection between two countries: his and mine.

And it’s not only about the people within the sport, but also people that see us from the outside. This [the connection] is an example even for the businesses. I frequently have conferences with businesses, and I tell them, that between businesses there doesn’t always have to be a competitive relationship. They can often learn from each other to continue evolving, and that is exactly what Yuzuru and I did. We gave a lot to each other.
